1990
Dresdner Bank is the first western financial institution to open its own office in former eastern Germany – in its city of origin, Dresden, on 2 January 1990, followed by offices in East Berlin, Leipzig, Rostock, Magdeburg, Chemnitz and Erfurt.
Dresdner Bank donates DM 20 million to the City of Dresden to promote the arts, culture and restoration work. Of this figure, DM 12 million comes from the Bank’s Dresden Cultural Foundation.
Opening of representative offices in Warsaw, Prague and Budapest.
In June, the German Wirtschafts-, Währungs- und Sozialunion (Convention for economic, monetary and social co-operation) comes into force, and with it the launch of business activities by west German financial institutions in the GDR, which still exists officially. Dresdner Bank has an initial total of 107 offices.
The Group's share capital exceeds DM 10 billion for the first time and it has more than 1,500 offices.
1991
Three large new branch areas are set up – Berlin, Dresden und Leipzig.
Dresdner Bank Berlin AG (established 1949 as Bank für Handel und Industrie, Berlin) merges with Dresdner Bank AG with retroactive effect from 1 October 1990.
1992
The business volume of the Dresdner Bank Group exceeds DM 333 billion. The number of employees at Dresdner Bank AG amounts to 37,400 and in the Group as a whole to 44,600. The business volume of Dresdner Bank AG totals approx. DM 200 billion. The Group accounts include, in addition to Dresdner Bank AG companies, around 60 German and foreign subsidiaries.
The Bank's AGM is held in Dresden for the first time since 1941.
1993
Jürgen Sarrazin is appointed as Chairman of the Board of Managing Directors.
A subsidiary is established in St. Petersburg together with Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP). Dresdner Bank is the first bank in Russia with a full banking licence.
1995
Takeover of British investment bank Kleinwort Benson, London.
1997
125th anniversary of Dresdner Bank.
The Berlin branch has new premises at Pariser Platz.
Dresdner Bank is the first European bank to be granted a licence to open a branch in Peking.
1998
Bernhard Walter is appointed as Chairman of the Board of Managing Directors.
Mortgage bank merger: Deutsche Hypothekenbank Frankfurt AG, Frankfurt/Main, Hypothekenbank in Hamburg AG, Hamburg, and Norddeutsche Hypotheken- und Wechselbank AG, Hamburg, merge to form Deutsche Hypothekenbank Frankfurt-Hamburg AG.
A branch is opened in Australia, with offices in Sydney and Melbourne.
Dr Wolfgang Röller is appointed as Honorary Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
